Arsenal kicked off their 2023/24 Premier League season with a 2-1 home victory over Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon.

The Gunners were the better team throughout the match and were unlucky not to have won by a big margin, Having led 2-0 for most of the game, Taiwo Awoniyi pulled one back for the away side to set up a nervy last eight minutes. Arsenal managed to hold out to the win despite Forest charging forward.

Goals by Eddie Nketiah and Bukayo Saka in the first half ultimately seal the win for Mikel Arteta‘s troops.

After the match, the Arsenal coach praised Nketiah.

“I’m delighted for him because he is a role model. He was a player who was so disappointed not to play the final in the absence of Gabi [Jesus]. The way he was training this week was ‘Gaffer, if you’re not playing me you are blind’. He’s a clear example to everybody [in the squad].”

With the win, Arsenal keep pace with three-time defending champions Manchester City, who won their opener against Burnley on Friday evening.
